Charles was an engine driver with the WA Government Railways when the call went out for more railway men to operate the railways for the troops in Europe. After 10 days training he was sent overseas where the Unit was responsible for transferring troops, stores and ammunition along lines running from the rear to the front line.


Christmas card addressed to his daughter Winnie and program for the Annual Christmas dinner in France in 1918.
