The 16th Battalion AIF was made up of Western Australians (75%) and South Australians (25%). The recruits all travelled to Melbourne for training and then sailed to Egypt. They fought at Gallipoli and many lost their lives on the beaches. The Battalion then deployed to the Western Front where there were many other casualties.
Neville Browning has published 'Bayonets and Barbed Wire:History of the 16th Battalion AIF 1914-1919.' As part of his research he compiled this collection of photos of some of the men who were killed in action, which he has kindly shared with WAMDL.
