Certificate of Discharge and a photo of the 28 soldiers who had been left stranded in New Guinea once the war had ended.

This note explains the photo. 28 Army chaps who could not get back to Australia from New Guinea after the war was over. One night the HMAS Cessnock, a corvette, radioed that they would take only the married men, so that included me.
The Cessnock had very little room for its crew so we were very crowded. Also we were towing an RAAF Rescue Launch which made the going very slow as it was as rough as hell and we were all sea sick - the Army fellows that is.
We left the RAAF Launch at Bundaberg, Nth Queensland and proceeded to Sydney. At the wharf waiting for us was a double deck bus with banners each side reading Returning Long Service Men.
We had a great welcome from the crowd and this is when the photos were taken at the wharf in Sydney.
