Jack Gerke was a Staff Investigator for the 8th Military District - Japanese War in the South West Pacific Criminal Atrocities from 1946 to 1947.
General Hatazo Atachi was Commander in Chief in the Imperial Japanese 18th Army. He surrendered to the Australian Military and was charged with war crimes towards prisoners of war. On 10th September, 1947 he committed suicide after writing a number of letters.
Jack Gerke was a part of a special 'K' Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He also served with the 3rd Royal Australian Regiment.
