Mervyn joined the 2/28th Battalion in November 1941, just after they had been evacuated from Tobruk and were enjoying a period of rest and recreation in Palestine. They then took up a garrison role in Syria and Lebanon until the beginning of July 1942. He took these photos during this time.
When the fighting in El Alamein was over in November 1942, Mervyn and his battalion went to Gaza in Palestine. Mervyn took these photos before he sailed back to Australia in February 1943.
