The 'Services Reconnaissance Department(SRD)' is also known as the 'Z Special Unit' or 'Z Force'. There were over 1500 soldiers recruited to this Force and they carried out at least 81 missions behind enemy lines. Training camps were established in Broken Bay, Sydney, New South Wales; Cairns, Queensland; Fraser Island, Queensland; Garden Island, Western Australia; Darwin, Northern Territory.

There is a memorial to the men of the 'Services Reconnaissance Department(SRD)' on Garden Island, Western Australia. This brochure was compiled to perpetuate the memory of those who served in the SRD. The brochure can be accessed via the Publications icon or via this link.
