Matron Sarah Jewell trained as a nurse at Perth Hospital. She enlisted in the Army while working in Victoria, where she was nursing for International Harvesters- H.V. McKay-Massey. She served in many fields of the war and on the transports 'Queen Mary', 'Queen Elizabeth' and 'Oranje'. She was Matron of the'Centaur' when it was sunk at sea by the Japanese.
