Mary Sumner and her daughter, Dorothy, managed the Welcome Dining Rooms and Lodging House situated in Margaret Road, Midland Junction. In 1914, seventeen year old Dorothy was known to all as Dolly, Dolly Dimples or just Dimples and was a favourite with the young soldiers training at Blackboy Hill. She was friendly with them all and many of them sent her postcards and begged her to remember them kindly.
