Joseph Potter completed his compulsory training in the Citizen Military Force with the 11th Battalion at Swan Barracks, Perth. He received a certificate stating that he had fulfilled the requirements of the Defence Act on 11th July 1929.
During WW2 Joseph was employed as an engineer at Mundaring Weir which was a reserved occupation. This meant that he was ineligible for service in the C.M.F.. In 1940 he applied to the Department of Public Works for permission to leave his job and join the Military Forces but he was refused.
Joseph may not have served overseas or been involved in the defence of Perth but these certificates outline his involvement in the military story of Western Australia.
